The Explorer 46 Meteoroid Technology Satellite (MTS) launched from Wallops Island, Va., August 13, 1972, was configured to fit within the Scout heat shield, 86.36 cm in diameter. In order to package within this envelope, the meteoroid bumper detector panels had to be rolled up unpressurized and secured to the spacecraft main structure. After the spacecraft was placed in orbit the panels were unrolled by a deployment system and inflated by a pressurization system.

|A new software tool for computing Earth's atmospheric transmission of near- and far-infrared radiation - Lord, Steven D|
This report describes a new software tool, ATRAN, which computes the transmittance of Earth's atmosphere at near- and far-infrared wavelengths. We compare the capabilities of this program with others currently available and demonstrate its utility for observational data calibration and reduction. The program employs current water-vapor and ozone models to produce fast and accurate transmittance spectra for wavelengths ranging from 0.8 microns to 10 mm.
